Early Stage Finalists advancing to BVC

EDCO ANNOUNCES THE FIVE EARLY STAGE FINALISTS PRESENTING AT THE 17TH ANNUAL BEND VENTURE CONFERENCE OCTOBER 15-16

BEND, Ore. – September 25, 2020 – Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) announced the top five Early Stage finalists advancing to the 17th Annual Bend Venture Conference (BVC) on Thursday, October 15 – Friday, October 16, 2020. These companies will compete for an investment of $30,000 from Portland Seed Fund.

Ten companies took the stage both virtually and in person to pitch during last night’s Central Oregon PubTalk. The Early Stage competition includes companies that have a great idea and are close to “proof of concept.” They are pre-revenue (or very early) and are in the process of testing their product in the market. The competition will take place the morning of Friday, October 16th.

Last night, Masa won the audience vote and received a $3,000 cash award, courtesy of Portland Seed Fund and Elevate Capital.

In alphabetical order, the five BVC Early Stage finalists that will compete at BVC are:

  1. ADHERE GEAR Tech Corp. (Portland, OR) – Deploying shared-use luggage and travel gear for passengers to create a safer and cleaner environment for their personal items.
  2. Cozera (Portland, OR) – Creating verified digital identities for remote & in-person identity verification to increase customer satisfaction and deter identity fraud, saving time and money.
  3. Masa (Portland, OR) – The first online farmers market, bringing farmers markets to people via an online marketplace (think Etsy for farmers).
  4. MustDeliver (Portland, OR) – A digital marketplace delivering industry-leading clarity, control & communication between shippers and drivers in the trucking business.
  5. YesOMS (Bend, OR) – A platform for merchants and brand owners to offer a superior user experience to their customers through their own branded mobile application.

Ten companies to present at the September 24th PubTalk: Road to BVC

 

BEND, Ore. – September 15, 2020 – Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) announced the 10 semi-finalist companies advancing in the Early Stage competition for the 17th Annual Bend Venture Conference (BVC) on Thursday, October 15 – Friday, October 16, 2020. This group of companies is one step closer to presenting at BVC, competing for an investment of $30,000 from Portland Seed Fund.

The following Early Stage semi-finalists will pitch against each other at the September 24th PubTalk: Road to BVC. This high-energy entrepreneurial event showcases the BVC Early Stage semi-finalists as they deliver fast-paced, three-minute pitches to a live and virtual crowd. The audience, along with an expert panel of judges, will vote to decide which five companies advance to present at BVC on October 15-16, 2020.

This event will be held in-person and live streamed virtually straight from three rooms at McMenamins. If you plan to join in-person, know that COVID-19 precautions will be in place and space is highly limited.

In alphabetical order, the 10 BVC Early Stage semi-finalists that will compete at the September 24th PubTalk are:

Announcing The 2020 BVC Growth and Impact Competition Semi-Finalists

EDCO ANNOUNCES THE SEMI-FINALISTS FOR THE GROWTH AND IMPACT COMPETITIONS, ADVANCING ONE STEP CLOSER TO PRESENTING AT THE 2020 BEND VENTURE CONFERENCE

BEND, OR – September 11, 2020 – Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) announces the semi-finalists advancing in the Growth Stage and Impact Competitions for the 17th  Annual Bend Venture Conference (BVC) on Thursday, October 15 – Friday, October 16, 2020.

The below semi-finalists have one more round of cuts to go before they can present at this year’s conference. Companies in the Growth Stage have won investments ranging from $100,000 to $2,500,000, while the Impact winner could walk away with $100,000 or more. Semi-finalists in the Early Stage competition will be announced early next week, and will be given the opportunity to present at the September Central Oregon PubTalk on September 24th at McMenamins in downtown Bend.

In alphabetical order, the 10 Growth Stage semi-finalists are:

  1. DocVocate (Portland, OR) – Automating medical claims denial management through an AI-powered platform, empowering provider billing teams.
  2. Ksana Health, Inc (Eugene, OR) – A mobile platform that derives behavioral insights from patterns of smartphone use to improve behavioral and mental health outcomes.
  3. Locl.io (Portland, OR) – Providing expertise to help business of all sizes monetize Google Maps.
  4. Pet Hub (Wenatchee, WA) – A central hub to manage your pet’s life, helping owners share data safely while also finding trusted services and information.
  5. Plover (Portland, OR) – Disrupting the carwash industry with the world’s most efficient and precise robotic carwash system.
  6. PypeServer (Seattle, WA) – Software that automates the cutting of industrial steel pipe for construction and industrial uses.
  7. Rewire Neuroscience (Portland, OR) – Improving the speed, accuracy and precision of biomedicine, while quickly determining experimental or clinical significance.
  8. RexPay (Phoenix, AZ) – A mobile app where patients can easily understand, manage and pay all their medical bills and track insurance information in one place.
  9. The Accessory Junkie – (Portland, OR) A pioneering, new e-commerce model that connects customers with hard-to-find products from around the world.
  10. TriAgenics, Inc – (Redmond, OR) – Developers of a one-minute dental procedure that prevents wisdom teeth from ever forming.

In alphabetical order, the eight Impact Competition semi-finalists are:

  1. Biomotum (Portland, OR) – Creators of a robotic ankle-assist device that offers a cost effective, lightweight, portable, and efficient way to improve mobility in those with movement disorders.
  2. Caregiven (Portland, OR) – Creators of a tool that ensures aging or ailing loved ones benefit from a higher quality of life, reduced costs and peace of mind.
  3. Focal Technologies, Inc (Portland, OR) – A patented ray system using a refracting lens to concentrate the sun’s heat and UV waves into a receiver to break down any organic contaminant in water or soil.
  4. Gadusol Laboratories (Corvallis, OR) – A company that uses synthetic biology technology to produce natural sunscreen antioxidants found in marine life for human use.
  5. Inmedix, Inc (Seattle, WA) – Bringing two proprietary innovations to medicine: cloud-based clinical stress diagnostics and a new field called immune autonomics.
  6. Lazarus 3D, Inc (Corvallis, OR) – Developed a 3D process to rapidly create life-like models of anatomy from MRI screenings for doctors and hospitals.
  7. OnTo Technology (Bend, OR) – Offering battery recycling solutions to reduce cost and improve safety for the lithium ion battery industry.
  8. Wheyward Spirit (Portland, OR) – Repurposing billions of pounds of whey that go to waste to create a more sippable and sustainable spirit.

Hosted by EDCO, this year’s BVC will once again feature three competition categories: Growth Stage, Impact and Early Stage, bringing together entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders, both virtually and in-person in Bend, Oregon.

BEND, OR (August 31, 2020) – Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) will host the 17th Annual Bend Venture Conference (BVC) on Thursday, October 15 – Friday, October 16, 2020, both in-person and virtually. Tickets for the 17th Annual Bend Venture Conference are on sale now.

For the safety of those attending, the in-person conference will be spread out across multiple locations in Downtown Bend to allow for proper social distancing. Further details involving exact locations, speakers and agenda will be announced in the coming weeks.

BVC will also be live-streamed, expanding the reach of the conference outside of Bend’s physical borders, allowing for more people to participate in the event.

The Bend Venture Conference is once again featuring three competition categories: Growth Stage, Impact and Early Stage. Over 80 companies from across the United States applied to present at this year’s conference. The due diligence process is underway, which will determine the companies that make it to the Tower Theatre stage, with semi-finalist and finalist announcements being released leading up to the event.

Bend Venture Conference Scholarships Available

BEND VENTURE CONFERENCE APPLICATIONS OPEN THROUGH AUGUST 13TH
BIPOC & FEMALE FOUNDER SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

BEND, OR (July 30, 2020) – Applications to the 2020 Bend Venture Conference are due in just two weeks. Companies can start their application at any time, but must be completed by Thursday, August 13th.

Portland Seed Fund has committed an investment award of at least $30,000* to the company that wins the Early Stage competition. This is the largest amount of funding ever committed to this stage.

In addition to the investment award, Portland Seed Fund is BVC’s 2020 Early Stage Access Sponsor, providing scholarships and coaching for BIPOC companies to apply to the Early Stage competition. These scholarships are available to companies with at least one founder that identifies as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) where the application fee is a barrier to participating in the conference. Elevate / TiE Oregon are the 2020 Impact Access Sponsors, providing scholarships for both BIPOC and Female Founder companies to apply to the Impact Competition. For more information, click here.

The 2020 conference will be held both in-person and virtually, with opportunities for companies to present in both formats, as travel and health restrictions allow.

In the last six years, BVC has awarded over $11 million in investments, awards and prizes. Follow-on investments into companies that won at BVC will soon surpass $700 million. This premier regional event attracts top funds, entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders each year.
